Content and prohibited items policy

Draft: this page is being reviewed and may change before Nozzlet opens. Questions? Use our contact form.

Nozzlet is a directory that helps people find local 3D printing and making services. To keep it safe, legal, and trustworthy, everyone who uses Nozzlet (customers, makers, and advertisers) must follow these rules.

This policy applies to everything on Nozzlet: business listings, photos, descriptions, requests, uploaded files, messages, reviews, and ads.

You're responsible for following the law. Makers and customers must follow all laws that apply where they are, including laws on what can be made, sold, owned, shipped, or carried. If something is illegal where you or the other person are, it's not allowed on Nozzlet.

1. Designs and intellectual property

  • Only upload files you own or have permission to have printed. You'll confirm this every time you upload.
  • Makers may not advertise or sell products that use other people's brands, logos, or characters without permission (for example, branded merchandise or copies of licensed toys and figures).
  • Reselling genuine branded products is fine. For example, selling a used printer, genuine spare parts, or filament by its brand name in the marketplace. What's not allowed is counterfeit or unlicensed copies.
  • Portfolio photos should show your own original work, work you have permission to show, or work made from designs licensed for that use.
  • Don't copy other listings. Descriptions and photos must be your own.
  • Rights holders: if you believe something on Nozzlet infringes your rights, use the Report button or contact us through our contact form (choose "Legal or copyright") with details, and we'll review it promptly.

2. Airsoft, props, and sport equipment

We know the airsoft, paintball, and cosplay communities are big users of 3D printing, and we welcome them.

Allowed, where legal in both the maker's and the customer's location:

  • Airsoft, paintball, and gel blaster parts and accessories (for example grips, stocks, rails, mounts, magazine shells, speedloaders, battery boxes, hop-up parts, and cosmetic kits)
  • Props, costume pieces, and cosplay replicas that are clearly non-functional
  • Holsters, cases, pouches, and other gear

Please note:

  • Rules for airsoft devices and replicas differ between countries, provinces, and states, and they change. Makers and customers must follow the rules where they are, including any rules on appearance, markings (such as orange tips), power limits, sale, and transport.
  • Nothing may be listed or described as a way to make an airsoft device, prop, or replica fire real ammunition, or to exceed legal power limits.

3. Firearms and weapons

3.1 Allowed for everyone

Accessories that are not regulated where the maker and customer are, for example:

  • Holsters, cases, and storage
  • Cleaning tools and maintenance jigs
  • Target stands and range equipment
  • Scope, light, and camera mounts that are not regulated parts

3.2 Licensed makers only

Firearm parts that are legal to make and sell where the maker operates are allowed only when all of these are true:

  • The maker holds the licences required by law to make and sell them, has uploaded proof, and has been approved by Nozzlet for this category.
  • The customer holds the licences required by law to buy them (for example, a firearms licence in Canada, or meets federal and state requirements in the US), confirms this when contacting the maker, and the maker checks the customer's licence before any sale, as the law requires.
  • Work is arranged by direct contact only: not through public requests for bid, and without uploading design files to Nozzlet.
  • The maker and customer are in the same country. No cross-border orders in this category.

Nozzlet may remove this category from any maker, or suspend it entirely, at any time.

3.2a (Shown while the licensed category is switched off)

Regulated firearm parts are not currently available on Nozzlet.

3.3 Never allowed, even with a licence

  • Firearms, and any part the law treats as a firearm itself (such as frames or receivers), including complete, unfinished, or unserialized ("ghost") guns
  • Devices that make a firearm fire automatically, or that increase its rate of fire
  • Silencers, suppressors, and other prohibited devices, including magazines above legal capacity limits
  • Ammunition, explosives, and their components
  • 3D design files for firearms, firearm parts, or prohibited devices: these must never be uploaded to, shared through, or requested on Nozzlet
  • Weapons designed mainly to injure people, where illegal (for example, brass knuckles or concealed blades)
  • Instructions or services for getting around any weapons law

4. Other prohibited items and services

The following may not be listed, requested, made, or advertised through Nozzlet:

  • Anything illegal to make, sell, own, or ship where the maker or customer is
  • Counterfeits and fakes: fake IDs, badges, documents, currency, or counterfeit branded goods
  • Items to get around security: keys or tools made to open locks you don't own or have permission to open, skimmers, or devices to tamper with meters or security systems
  • Official look-alikes: police, military, or government badges and insignia meant to impersonate officials
  • Items for illegal drug use, where illegal
  • Hate and violence: items or content that promote hatred, violence, or terrorism
  • Sexually explicit content in listings, photos, requests, or ads

5. Safety-critical and certified items

Some items can put people at risk if they fail. Makers must be honest about what they can provide.

  • Don't claim certifications you don't have. Items like helmets, child car seat parts, medical devices, or food containers often require certification.
  • Safety-critical parts (for example, brakes, steering, climbing gear, or load-bearing parts that could injure someone if they fail) should only be made by makers with the right expertise, and never marketed as meeting safety standards unless they do.
  • Medical and dental items: only makers using certified materials and processes, working with qualified professionals, may offer these. No medical claims otherwise.
  • Food contact: don't claim a print is food-safe unless you use suitable materials and processes and can explain them.

6. Listings

  • Information must be accurate: real business, real location, real services, and your own photos.
  • One listing per business location. Premium makers can add locations to one business.
  • No contact details or links in descriptions. Use the website field (every plan) and the phone and social fields (paid plans).
  • No spam or keyword stuffing, and no listings for marketing agencies, SEO services, or anything unrelated to making.
  • Photos must not show people without their permission, or anyone's private information.

7. Messages and requests

  • Be respectful. No harassment, threats, discrimination, or abusive language.
  • No spam or unrelated sales messages.
  • No requests for prohibited items (Sections 3 and 4).
  • Don't share other people's personal information.
  • Watch for scams. Nozzlet will never ask for your password or payment details in a message.

8. Reviews

  • Reviews must be honest and based on your own experience with that maker.
  • No fake reviews, and no reviewing your own business or a competitor.
  • Makers may not offer payment, discounts, or gifts in exchange for reviews, or ask only happy customers to leave reviews in a way that hides negative experiences.
  • Makers may reply to reviews (on paid plans), but must stay respectful and not share the customer's private information.
  • Nozzlet doesn't edit reviews. We may remove reviews that break this policy.

9. Ads

Ads must be related to 3D printing, making, or manufacturing; be truthful; follow this policy (including Sections 3 and 4); and link to a working, relevant website. All ads are reviewed before they go live.

10. Enforcement

If something breaks this policy, Nozzlet may:

  • Remove the content (for example, a photo, review, request, or message)
  • Hide or remove a listing, or remove a category or badge
  • Suspend or permanently close an account
  • Report illegal activity to the authorities where required or appropriate

We'll usually tell you what was removed and why. Serious or illegal violations may lead to immediate account closure. Removing content or closing an account doesn't entitle you to a refund of a subscription, except where required by law.

Report something: use the Report button on any listing, message, review, or ad. Disagree with a decision? Contact support within 30 days and we'll take another look.

We may update this policy from time to time. We'll post the new version here and notify makers and advertisers of important changes.
