Clear resin can produce see-through parts. Straight off the printer they look slightly frosted; with sanding, polishing, or a clear coat, they can look close to glass. Like all resin prints, parts are washed and cured under UV light after printing. Uncured resin is a skin irritant, but properly cured finished parts are safe to handle.
What Clear resin is good at
- See-through parts: The clearest option in 3D printing.
- Fine detail: Same detail as standard resin.
Where it falls short
- Needs finishing to be truly clear: Polishing or coating adds time and cost.
- Can yellow: Exposure to sunlight and UV can tint it yellow over time.
- Brittle: Similar to standard resin.
Is Clear resin right for my project?
It's usually a good fit if your item:
- needs to be see-through
- is a display, lighting, or visual prototype
For tougher translucent parts, ask about PETG or polycarbonate filament (translucent rather than glass-clear).
Common questions
Will my part be as clear as glass? Only with extra finishing like polishing or clear coating. Ask your shop what finish they offer.
