Tough resin (often called ABS-like resin) is designed to bend a little before breaking, so parts survive handling and small impacts better than standard resin, while keeping a smooth, detailed finish. Like all resin prints, parts are washed and cured under UV light after printing. Uncured resin is a skin irritant, but properly cured finished parts are safe to handle.
What Tough / ABS-like resin is good at
- Less brittle: Survives drops and flexing better than standard resin.
- Detailed and smooth: Keeps most of resin's fine detail.
- Good for testing: Useful for prototypes that must snap together or take light use.
Where it falls short
- Not as tough as real ABS: Better than standard resin, but filament ABS or nylon is tougher for real-world use.
- Sunlight and heat: Same limits as other standard resins.
Is Tough / ABS-like resin right for my project?
It's usually a good fit if your item:
- needs detail and some toughness
- is a prototype or miniature that gets handled
For truly tough everyday parts, ask about filament ABS or nylon.
Common questions
Is ABS-like resin the same as ABS? No. It's a resin designed to behave a bit more like ABS, but it isn't the same material.
